NFA helping hand on Kadavu

National Fire Authority (NFA) firefighters are engaged in the rehabilitation works on Kadavu following the devastation caused by the Tropical Cyclone Keni last week. A five member team of firefighters from the Suva Fire Station were sent to Kadavu last week Friday and are working with National Disaster Management Office to carry out the rehabilitation works on the island which involved cleaning of the houses, schools and removing of debris from the properties following the impact of the Tropical Cyclone Keni that resulted in heavy flooding and infrastructural damages. NFA ACEO Mileta Seniroqa acknowledged the team’s contribution and good team effort so far with the NDMO team in Kadavu. The team has helped clean up a number of schools, roads and homes on the island since Saturday which required extensive cleaning to be done as debris and flood waters had entered the properties. “The team is also assisting in clearing up the roads and grounds to restore normalcy to movements and activities in the area,”Ms Seniroqa said. Mrs Seniroqa acknowledged the good coordination by the National Emergency Operations Centre for such remote areas that were affected by TC Keni which enabled NFA to assist in this rehabilitation process. Whilst on the island, the firefighters were also able to attend to some fire incidents.

Established by virtue of the National Fire Service Act, 1994 the National Fire Authority assumed responsibilities to provide fire services for the entire nation of Fiji in February 1995.
