NFA ATTENDS TO HOUSE FIRE IN LAMI

National Fire Authority (NFA) attended to a fire emergency call in Lami Town last night that claimed the life of a female.

At 9.30 pm, the Suva Fire Station was alerted of the house fire and responded immediately. Upon arrival at the scene at 9.34 pm, the fire team found a room at the top flat of Kadavu Kava Shop in flames.

The fire crew quickly used two deliveries of water from the fire trucks to extinguish the fire and stopped its spread to other parts of the house and adjacent buildings. The quick action from the fire crew enabled them to extinguish and control the fire to the area of origin.

It was unfortunate however that the fire team found a body of a young woman in one of the two-bedroom flat. The victim was quickly transported to the CWM hospital in the NFA ambulance.

Chief Executive Officer Mr. Puamau Sowane was grateful to the firefighters for their quick action and for containing the fire to the area of origin.  He also commended the public for the quick call to the fire brigade.  NFA encourages all the members of the public to stay fire safe and call 910 as soon as they see smoke or any fire.

In another fire incident, a family lost their home in a fire in Tunalia, Nadi last night.  At 10.16 pm, the Nadi Fire Station was alerted of the house fire and the team responded immediately. Upon arrival at the scene, the fire crew found a two-bedroom corrugated iron dwelling on fire. The fire crew quickly used one delivery of water from the fire truck to extinguish the fire.

It is believed the house was vacant at the time of the fire as the family was away.

NFA is working with the Police to conduct investigations to determine the causes of both fires and circumstances surrounding the fire victim.
