The National Fire Authority (NFA) attended to a fire incident at Nacara Street in Vatuwaqa at midday today.
A 910-emergency call was received by NFA Suva Control at 12.47 pm who dispatched the team to the scene. The team immediately responded and upon arrival at the scene, they found a four-bedroom house fully engulfed in flames. The supporting team from Valelevu Fire Station also attended this incident.
The fire teams quickly used one delivery of water from the fire truck to extinguish the fire. The wooden house was a very old structure and contributed greatly to the escalation of the fire.
Four people were at home when the fire had started and managed to escape to safety before it spread. Altogether six people have been displaced as a result of this fire.
NFA CEO Mr. Puamau Sowane said that it is so sad to see this happen, particularly during these trying times and as we near the festive season.
Mr. Sowane said that NFA continues to remind people that fire safety should not be taken lightly and it is everyone’s responsibility to look after their property and keep it fire safe. We urge everyone to be more careful particularly as we are nearing the festive season where a lot of cooking is expected and companies are advised to keep their working environment fire safe.
NFA investigation will soon be conducted to determine the cause of the fire incident.
